We are excited to announce that we won the North Carolina District Championships for this year’s game, FIRST Steamworks. Congratulations to our alliance partners Team 4561, the Terrorbytes, and Team 3229, Hawktimus Prime. We will be attending FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas on April 18, and would like to thank everyone who made this possible for us.
Want to see what we did at Championship? We collaborated an alliance partner to build a robot in 7 hours! Watch a synopsis of its craziness here!
Huge shoutout to Lenovo for writing this cool article on their website! It was on the front page today. We love representing our sponsors on the field; we couldn't do it without you all!
Two weeks ago, our team had the amazing opportunity to attend the FIRST World Championship and work with some of the best teams in the world. We got to show off our amazing holonomic drive train (swerve!), as well as our vision tracking working during autonomous. Our bin recognition vision system, with the help of an NVidia Jetson board, was able to detect bins, how far away they were, the angle, and the confidence level that it was, in fact, a bin.
We were chosen by the first ranked alliance in our division. With our amazing alliance, teams 1114 - Simbotics, 148 - The RoboWranglers, and 1923 - The MidKnight Inventors, we won the Curie subdivision and made it to semi-finals in Einstein! Not only that, but we worked with Team 1114 to build a new robot in the course of a few hours. You can check out a more detailed account of the story on chief delphi.
We had an amazing time getting to work with these teams and build robots. It was an inspiring experience for all involved; we are so excited to have gotten to do it!
Last weekend, our team attended the NC Regional. We have improved our robot since our last competition in February, where we won the Creativity Award. In NC, we received the Gracious Professionalism Award for our generosity with other teams. Additionally, we won the event with our amazing alliance partners, Team 1225 (The Gorillas) and Team 2059 (The Hitchhikers)! This means we get to compete with teams across the world at the Championship in St. Louis, again! This also means that the season is not over for us. We need to raise another $20,000-$25,000, in about 4 weeks, to make this all happen. We need all the help we can get; we appreciate all of the generosity from our sponsors. Thank you all for your support!
Saturday we went to an off-season event called THOR (Thundering Herd of Robots) hosted by the HotBotz in Reidsvillle, North Carolina. Off-season competitions are not official FIRST events, but they follow the same rules and layout of the previous season’s competition. We used this opportunity to give new members experience working with the robot in a competitive setting. We trained new drivers, human players, scouters, and programmers. We are also in the process of getting our mechanical team and coaches up to speed. We worked really well with our alliance and ended up winning the competition. This was great team preparation and we are extremely excited for the coming year!
We went to an off season event last weekend and guess what? We won! Rumble in the Roads is an off season event held at Menchville High School in Newport News, VA. We took a small group of students and a robot running off of the new Roborio. We had a great time showing off our beta bot and teaching others about it. We also won the USS Monitor award! The USS Monitor Award celebrates innovation in robot components, design, or strategy of play (http://www.rumbleintheroads.com/teams/event-results/2014). We would like to thank teams 1610, 1793, and 2363 for hosting the event.
We won! The team did fantastically at the NC regional, ranking second at the end of qualifiers. After some tough competition in elimination rounds, we won! We will post a link to the live feed when we know more. Congrats to all the teams who are going to championships!

We had a ton of fun at Myrtle Beach! We ended qualifications ranked 13th, and made it to semi-finals and gave the top ranked team their first defeat before we got out. Thanks to our awesome alliance partners 1225 and 1311 for a great run!
